In Memorium: Micki Iris

January 15, 2020

We regret to announce the recent passing of Micki Iris. Micki was a student of Ossy Werner's, receiving her PhD from our Department in 1981. For many years, Micki ran Northwestern's Summer Ethnographic Methods Field School in the Southwest among communities of the Navjo Nation.  This program provided critical training for many of our Department's undergraduate and graduate students.

Micki served as the Director of the Buehler Center on Aging at our Medical School from 1999 tp 2001, and she more recently served as the Director of the Leonard Schanfield Research Institute of the Council for Jewish Elderly.  She also taught qualitative methods as a faculty member in Northwestern's Public Health Program.

Micki was a good friend, a generous colleague, and strong supporter of NU Anthropology, working with many of our students over the years.  She will be deeply missed. Back to top
